Purpose
The causeway shortens travel between the capital and the north while creating a direct route toward planned residential, commercial and investment areas.
History
Construction began in 2013 and the main crossing opened in May 2019. The project includes the Subiyah Link, the Doha Link and two artificial islands designed for maintenance and emergency services.
Why it matters
Beyond travel time, the bridge changes Kuwait’s mental map: the northern shore becomes closer to the capital and more accessible for long-term development.
